Student Action Group

Last year Charles Conder Primary had a year 5/6 Student Action Group which held all sorts of projects to raise money for our school to buy new things.
At the beginning of the year the Student Action Group had around 30 members but at the end of the year there were about 23 left.
Some of the highlights of 2007 were Rainbow Day, Harmony Week and the Jamm 4 Genes Concert.
Rainbow Day was our first event. It was about harmony. We were encouraged to dress in colourful clothes for a gold coin. For another gold coin you could get your hair sprayed.
Rainbow Day influenced Harmony Week which was a great success. The year 6’s had a great time teaching the younger kids. All the kids had a great time and had loads of fun making the Harmony Mascots.
One of our last big events was on the 3 August. It was the Jamm 4 Genes Day and Charles Conder Primary School held a concert. Overall the Jamm 4 Genes Day was another huge success and raised around $700 for the Children’s Medical Research Institute. We had a huge assembly and hope to do it again in 2008.
Our school was involved in the mobile phone project. Students and parents had to bring in old mobile phones. For every mobile the school collected we received $5. Through this project we raised $310.
The Student Action Group sold a range of Harmony merchandise including bears, wristbands, Make Harmony Happen logos and more.
During lunchtimes some members of the Student Action Group sold chocolate frogs out the front of the library for $1. Everyone bought them and enjoyed them and we raised heaps of money.
One of the most important things about the Student Action Group is that we get to make lots of decision. With all the money we raised we actually got to decide how to spend the money. After every event we met on a Thursday and came up with ideas about how to spend the money. Everyone was part of this and overall no one cared which decision was made as we all had a voice.

In 2008 the Student Action Group has continued to delevop and grow. They hold the Monday Markets each week at Lunchtime, selling snacks to the students to help raise money. This has proven to be so popular that there are also markets on Fridays now! There are a number of sub-committees within the Action Group, each of which is responsible for a different area, for example sport, IT and wokring on the Farm.
This year students in 3 and 4 have had the opportunity to join the 3/4 Action group.
