Playground Enrichment & Life Skills Programs

Each day throughout the week, students are provided with supervised enrichment activities at lunch and recess. A copy of the Playground Enrichment Timetable is displayed around the school. These experience provide children an alternative to the busy dynamics of the large playground areas.

Some of the activities that are provided are:

‘In the Australian Curriculum, students develop personal and social capability as they learn to understand themselves and others, and manage their relationships, lives, work and learning more effectively. Personal and social capability involves students in a range of practices including recognising and regulating emotions, developing empathy for others and understanding relationships, establishing and building positive relationships, making responsible decisions, working effectively in teams, handling challenging situations constructively and developing leadership skills.’

This term, Justin (Youth Worker) and Isabelle Ludovici have collaborated to offer a Life-Skills program from Monday to Thursday. These sessions run in the morning for 30 minutes.

We are providing the opportunity for students to care for our chickens and our sustainability gardens and we also run a cooking class once a week on a Wednesday.

The collaborative team-work in these programs enable the students to develop their personal and social capability. We have recognised how calm these students are when working in their natural environment and this program enables the opportunity to work effectively in different environments within the school.

The students have demonstrated greater understanding in handling themselves, their relationships, learning and work. They look forward to these sessions and return to class refreshed and hopefully ready for learning.
