Principals message
Welcome to the Charles Conder Primary School website. Charles Conder Primary School is situated in the Lanyon Valley in the south of the Australian Capital Territory. We have a student population of around 500 children ranging in age from 4 to 12 years of age. There are about 380 families that are members of our community and almost 50 staff employed to cater for the needs of students and families.
In 2008 Tharwa and Conder Preschools will amalgamate with the Primary School making Charles Conder Primary School an educational facility that caters for students from Preschool to Year 6. This amalgamation will also make us the largest public primary school in the ACT.
Our community has a commitment to excellence in a caring, cooperative, purposeful and success oriented environment. As a community we share the common values of respect, responsibility, resilience, tolerance, inclusion and doing your best. We explicitly teach these values to our students and recognise people who display our values and are positive models and citizens in our community.
In striving to be a professional learning community we share and articulate a common purpose and values. Our teachers display and model learning as professionals and willingly reflect upon and share their practice. A culture of continuous improvement prevails and characterises our community.
Charles Conder Primary School is a member of the Lanyon Cluster of Schools. Gordon and Bonython Primary Schools, Lanyon High School and the Birrigai Outdoor Education Centre make up the remainder of the Cluster. The cluster is renowned for its work and is acknowledged and acclaimed internationally and nationally for its work in developing teacher pedagogy that engages students in meaningful high order thinking and learning.
It is the belief of our community that we are all responsible for the academic, social, emotional and physical well being and development of the children in our community. We believe that the partnership between home and school is the most important relationship of all and we must do all we can to ensure the strength of this partnership.
I am privileged to be the Principal of the school and wish you all the best. Enjoy interacting with our website and learning about the characteristics that make us such a successful school community.
